About AVSC
What is the AVSC?
The AVSC is the largest school-based sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere, attracting hundreds of teams from across Australia, plus international teams.
Who can enter the AVSC?
Any school that fits the entry criteria can enter the AVSC, please refer to section 2 & 3 of the 2020 AVSC Tournament Regulations that can be found in the submenu of “Event Info”.
Entering a Team
When does the online nominations open and close?
The online nominations will open from the 3rd August 2020. Please make sure you follow the nomination “How To’ document trackable on the website under Nomination to ensure you haven’t missed anything.
The Nomination closing date is on the 1st November 2020
How do I register my team?
New School/team

- Request a username and password
- Enter in username and password http://pjmsports.com.au/AVSC%20Entries/Login.a5w
- Then refer to the “How to” guide that will explain you step by step the nomination process. (The guide will be found under Nominations in the 'Competitors' menu)
Existing School/team (school that has previously participated)

- Request for a new password. Your previous username is still valid.
- Then you’ll need to nominate your teams the same as previous years.
When is the entry payments/invoice due?
The nomination advice and tax invoice will be sent to schools on 16th November 2020. We request the team entry fee payments before 30th November 2020. Entry fees received after this date will incur a $100 late entry fee.
How many players and officials can we register?
Up to 16 players can be nominated on a team list but the list must be reduced to 12 or less at team registration.
A team may consist of up to twelve (12) players, one Coach, one Assistant Coach, one Trainer and one Medical Doctor (unless modified by the specific competition regulation).
AVSC Tournament
How is the tournament structured?
The tournament shall be conducted in separate competitions for boys and girls.
Only female students may play in girls’ competitions.
Male or female players may play in boys’ competitions, subject to Regulation 3.1.
The Tournament shall be divided into Honours and Divisional sections.
How many games will our team play?
Your team will be playing at least one match per day, maximum 2 per day. Each team will play at each venue throughout the week.
Where can we find our Division Draws?
Sorry the draws are not available for the moment. As soon as they will be created you’ll be able to find each division’s draws booklet containing information about their matches, the schedules and the venues under “Event Info”.
Will referees officiate each game?
The qualified referees from each team will officiate when their team is rostered for duty at the time of player registration. Most finals matches will be refereed by official referees provided by Volleyball Australia.
How do I become an AVSC referee?
Contact your State Volleyball Association to become a qualified Referee.

Please note; fines will be deducted from your duty bond, if referees are not appropriately accredited for duties performed. If you are unsure about the AVSC referee system or your school’s responsibility, please check out the Tournament Regulations on the website.

What are the Age Groups?
The following age groups shall be offered:
Volleyball Australia reserves the right to merge Divisions or create additional Divisions, subject to nominations.
Honours Competition
The honours competition is age based - the following age groups shall be offered:
Open (U20) | Must be at least 16 but cannot turn 20 or older in the year of the event |
Yr 10 | Must be at least 14 but cannot turn 17 or older in the year of the event |
Under 16 | Must be at least 13 but cannot turn 16 or older in the year of the event |
Under 15 | Must be at least 12 but cannot turn 15 or older in the year of the event |
Divisional Competition
The divisional competition is school year level based - the following year levels and divisions will be offered:
Year 12 | Division 1, 2, 3 or 4 – Must be in year 9, 10, 11 or 12 |
Year 11 | Division 1, 2 or 3 – Must be in year 9, 10 or 11 |
Year 10 | Division 1, 2 or 3 – Must be in year 8, 9 or 10 |
Year 9 | Division 1, 2 or 3 – Must be in year 7, 8 or 9 |
Year 8 | Division 1 or 2 - Must be in year 6, 7 or 8 |
Year 7 | Division 1 or 2 – Must be in year 5, 6 or 7 |
What are the AVSC divisions?
The Tournament shall be divided into Honours and Divisional sections as follows:
Honours Competition

I want to compete in Honours but did not finish in the State Top 3, what should I do?
If you wish to compete in Honours Division but did not finish in the Top 3 at your State Schools Cup, you need to submit a Wildcard Application.
How do I obtain a Wildcard application?
Please complete the online Wildcard Application under the ‘Competitors’ sub menu and press submit. Applications are due by the 1st November 2020. Late applications will not be considered.
I have an international student/student from another school in my team, is he able to compete?
If your team has an International player or a student that has changed schools, you need to submit an Exemption Form.
How do I obtain an Exemptions Form?
Please download the Exemption Form under the ‘Competitors’ sub menu and send it back completed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Applications are due by the 1st November 2020. Late applications will not be considered by the AVSC Event Commission.
How do I nominate a school/individual for the Long Service awards?
To nominate a school or an individual for their outstanding service, the Long Service Awards is required to be submitted online. Applications are due by the 1st November 2020. Late applications will not be considered.
Are undergarments such as 'Skins' permitted?
Yes, but only black, white or nude coloured compression garments are permitted to be worn.
How does the bond payment work?
As you will be providing us with your bank details, your bond refund will be sent via EFT for the 2020 AVSC. Any infringements that will occur throughout the event will be subtracted from the original bond amount. Also if your school does not pick the medals at the closing ceremony $20.00 will be subtracted from your bond amount.
Team Bond
As part of the entry fee to the tournament each School shall be invoiced a team bond deposit of $200 per team, as indicated on the nomination form. Schools nominating more than 4 teams shall be invoiced a team bond of $800. For any fines over and above the bond deposit, schools will be invoiced to recoup the additional amount.

The AVSC matches will be held across 3 venues.

Which venue is my division playing?
Every division will play across all venues; there isn’t a specific venue for a specific division.
How do I book Training Courts?

How do I become an AVSC volunteer?

We expect volunteers to be available from the 5th to the 13th of December 2020. For more information about your role, you can find information in the Volunteer Handbook on the website.

What official activities occur during the tournament?
The Opening Ceremony, Closing ceremony, Medal presentations, a jumping competition and the team photos.
What is the prize for the Banner Competition winner?
A prize will be awarded to the school with the best banner. The winner will be announced at the closing ceremony.
